Independent Open Winter Guard
Over the weekend, the NESBA circuit had their Finals competition at Salem High School in Salem, Massachusetts. Getting to this point in the season took a lot of time and dedication from both the members and staff.
One of the most important things that is always stressed is that we, SACO, are a family.
We as members have been working with each other sense October of 2018. We have come so far from then. In order to do this sport, we need to Love each other, Trust each other, and be Committed to each other.
For over 80 years, Love, Trust, and Commitment has been the base of Blessed Sacrament.
For Blessed Sacrament Open, we have been struggling over the years to find our “best show”. During my first season with this organization, we showcased our Highland Avenue performance. This was the first time that I was part of a family aside from my own. We were able to pull together and exceed all expectations. We were able to pass the prelims performance at the WGI finals circuit that was held in 2015.
After 2015, Blessed Sacrament Open has not exceed that. We were in a rut.
This year is our second year with a new staff who continue to push us forward as a color guard. After last years performance of Hello, we could only go forward from there.
We still have most of our members from last year, with new members who joined the team this year. We have never been more close. We are a family.
We at SACO, all love each other. We as members, took the time to work with each other to do the sport that we all love, work together to make ourselves better by helping each other out with any advice that we can give, try to have fun even when we are all stressed, upset, or having a bad day in general, and we are always cheering each other on when someone drops a piece of equipment.
We all trust each other. During this years show, there are many parts where things get hectic. Members throw their equipment to other members. This is the first time where we have been able to trust each other enough to successfully be able to do all of these exchanges. Without the trust, we would have at some point or another been hit in the head with rifles, sabers, or flags.
We are all committed to each other. Without the commitment… none of us would be where we are today. We are leaving tomorrow evening to go to Ohio to compete at WGI finals. Without our commitment, we would not have been at any performance, we would not have been at practice, we would not have practiced outside of practice, we would not have kept in touch with each other throughout the week sending photos of dogs and cats, we would not have been at auditions, and we would not have been motivated to make the first step towards any of our goals.
Without love, trust, and commitment, we would not be who we are.
If you are interested in the upcoming WGI Color Guard World Champions, the competition begins April 3rd.
